Wanderers
From BTR Wiki
Wanderer is the term applied to those who came through the Rift from other universes. Sometimes the universe closely parallels this one, sometimes it's completely separate, but no matter how similar or not, they are all a very long way from home.
[edit] Effects of the Rift
The Rift changes everyone who goes through it, in one way or another. Sometimes it changes their genetic makeup - it can be as simple as changing their eye color, or as drastic as changing their species. Sometimes it strips magical abilities or powers they had before the Rift, turns an immortal into a mortal. Sometimes it grants abilities, magical or otherwise - an eidetic memory, the ability to turn into an animal, healing powers...
It's all random, really, and can be good, bad, or a mixture of the two. But no matter what, something is always changed.

[edit] Coming Through
The experience of coming through the Rift is different for everyone. Sometimes a wanderer will experience darkness or flashing lights, noise or silence - sometimes there's no transition at all, and they just suddenly find themselves somewhere they should not be. Sometimes falling through the Rift is literally falling, and they come tumbling out - sometimes it's as simple as taking a step forward through a doorway, except instead of being in another room, they're in another universe.
A wanderer can come through the Rift anywhere in the city, not just in the established locations. Openings in the Rift appear all over Chicago. The most likely places for a Wanderer to fall through a Rift include the Cicero Construction Site near the Gauche, Calisto's Warehouse, or the Bestowed's Warehouse as these openings are the largest and most stable in Chicago. There are also Rifts that often open in Grant Park as it is an unstable location and produces Rifts frequently. It may be most beneficial for new players, especially, to start off with their first Wanderer falling through one of those rifts.
After they've slept, all wanderers will wake up to find a journal beside them. This journal cannot be destroyed permanently. It will always come back to them after they've slept. It connects them to the supernatural network. Angels, demons, and supernatural humans have journals that work similarly. The majority of these journals are paper based. It means that voice posts, video posts, and posting links or youtube videos is either impossible for your character or impossible for most other characters to see.
[edit] Home Universes
Wanderers can come from any universe, both fandom and original. Fandom AUs and fandom-based originals are allowed as well, though the mods will be stricter with apps for these characters.
What happens in a wanderer's home universe once they've fallen through the Rift is unclear to those on this side, mostly because reports vary. For instance, Tosh, Owen and Ianto fell through the Rift at around the same time - when Gwen Cooper came through later, she had been on her own for a month after the others mysteriously disappeared without a trace. By contrast, in another universe, Desmond Descant fell through first; when his friend Mathias came in from several years later, Des had not disappeared, but actually still been present in that universe and died some time after Des came through the Rift. Sam Tyler jumped off a roof to get back to 1973 and came through the Rift instead, while for Gene Hunt, Sam did end up coming back just like he meant to, before Gene came through the Rift.
Unless someone on this side finds a way to reverse the Rift, there is no returning to a home universe - the Rift only works in one direction, and anything trying to go through the other way ends up shredded and tossed back. Assuming return ever becomes possible, the things the Rift altered will not be reversed, and they will inevitably return to their home universe a different person.
